This report focuses on the opportunities and challenges that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement presents to the manufacturing sector in Ghana. It also examines the implications of the AfCFTA for trade unions and the protection of workers’ rights.
The report, which considers the views of business and trade unions, shows that the AfCFTA can help ramp up Ghana’s manufacturing sector and create decent employment. But there are also perils in the AfCFTA that would need urgent attention for businesses and citizens to benefit from the agreement. The report urges for a strengthened social framework to allow worker organisations to participate in the negotiations and implementation of the trade agreement.
